Sweet Hour of Prayer

I woke up this morning thinking about the hymn "Sweet Hour of Prayer" by William Walford. You see, thanks to pregnancy aches and pains, I spent a sweet hour in prayer last night from about 2:00-3:00 when I couldn't sleep. Also soon, I'm sure I will be up in the middle of the night nursing a newborn, which is a time I also like to spend in prayer. Last night, and especially while up nursing, I pray over my children, for their health, salvation, growth, future spouses, etc. For grace in parenting them. I pray for our families and friends. For those we know who are unsaved. For those who have lost a family member. For those who are expecting or longing for a child. For our country and for the economy. For our church and our new pastor and more. While I do not love being unable to sleep, I do enjoy the time spent before my Father's throne.

Here are some of the words to the hymn, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" -

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Hey, that's what I do too...I'm usually too busy during the day to meditate...and counting the many blessings is better than counting sheep!
